Shunter

What will you be doing?

As a shunter, you’ll be on the road every day operating heavy equipment. You’ll pick up containers, transport them to the correct location, and ensure that transportation flows smoothly in and around our terminals.

  • Safely moving containers, trailers, and chassis
  • Driving between terminals, warehouses, storage locations, and customers in Bergen op Zoom and the surrounding area
  • Operating a terminal tractor and other equipment
  • Picking up and delivering containers to the correct location
  • Staying in contact with planners, drivers, and colleagues
  • Handling vehicles and equipment safely and carefully

What does your workday look like?

You start your shift at 5:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. and check which runs are scheduled for you. Then you get into your terminal tractor and head out to pick up and deliver containers at various locations in Bergen op Zoom and the surrounding area.

During your shift, you’ll be in regular contact with dispatch and will run into your fellow yard operators along the way. Routes and assignments change throughout the day, so you’ll spend a lot of time working independently while still being part of a close-knit team.
Your shifts vary from week to week. Do you prefer to work only in the morning or only in the afternoon? We’d be happy to discuss your options with you.

What do we expect from you?

You enjoy operating heavy equipment, work independently, and handle responsibility well. Experience as a yard operator is not required; we consider motivation and the desire to learn the trade to be just as important.

    • You have a Class B and T driver’s license, or you are willing to obtain your Class T license
    • Did you obtain your Class B driver’s license before July 1, 2015? If so, you automatically have a valid Class T license
    • You’re flexible and don’t mind varying work hours
    • You are reliable and committed.
    • You are a go-getter and willing to go the extra mile when necessary.
    • You work safely and carefully.

No experience with yard work yet? No problem. An experienced coworker will help you learn the job on the job.

What is in it for you?

At BTT, you’ll have a varied job where you’ll spend a lot of time on the road working independently and operating heavy equipment. You’ll be part of a family-owned business with short lines of communication and colleagues who are always there for one another.

    • Salary between €15.58 and €18.28 per hour
    • Full-time and part-time opportunities
    • Work in a 2-shift rotation with start times at 5:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
